Conformity - Jackson. Pollock.

The element art: Colour, form, Line, Texture.

I think when Jackson Pollock painted this he was expressing different emotions or was expressing different way of how people see the world. Full of colors and full of spirit. I love seeing how he flicked the paint everywhere making different swirly lines.

Writing: The Mystery Blossom Tree

  Mystery's
       Blossom
                 Tree.
I came back from school it’s December my favorite month of the year where school ends and summer start, I was walking home with two of my friends, Mia and Louise. I always have them around with me everywhere, while we were walking to my house it was getting really hot and even hotter. The blazing sun was killing us so we decided to head to the shops and grab us some drinks. When we got there I was waiting outside the shops my legs were sore and my head was burning until I felt a cool breeze come across my face, it helped me calm down and I had this feeling as if it was coming from somewhere.

So I followed it, it was getting even windy I cooled down, even more, it was such a refreshing feeling, until I stopped. I opened my eyes and when I opened my eyes I was in shocked I was… standing at the top of a hill. Some kind of hill and it was properly a really tall hill because I could no longer see anything at the bottom, I was confused so confused that I started yelling help but it was empty as if nothing was there as if I was in the middle of nowhere only on top of a hill, I turned around and looked across seeing half the top of the hill was covered with blossom tree and petals that had fallen off. It was so beautiful I admired it actually wanting to take a picture of it, I grabbed my bag but my bag was gone and my phone was missing, searching and searching for my phone looking around on the grass but saw no sight of it. I felt kind of dizzy all of a sudden but could still see and control my body properly, so I forgot about my phone and went walking over to the other side of the hill where all the blossom tree was.

It was like a forest it was blossom tree over blossom tree creating a huge ceiling pathway, I walked down it and the smell of the petals caught me by surprise I’ve never smelled a blossoming plant before but it was like nothing else I smelled it, it wasn’t to strong, it wasn’t too sweet but it was just perfect! Just how I liked it. I felt peace and calm came over me. Then I decided to lay down in the petals and after awhile I thought to myself could I stay here??, only for like 2 days but how would I survive?, what if it rained?, what will I eat?. So the only option that I had in my mind was to get down from the hill and return back home, still thinking how I got here I thought it would be better to go down on land to find my way home.
I’m going to miss that blossom tree so I continued to walk to crawl down the hill. While I was walking I wanted to take something with me (feeling as if I had to) so I walked up to the blossom tree and took off the string of blossom that was hanging down I shook the tree and all the beautiful petals came down putting some in my pocket as well, which I shouldn’t have because they could’ve been all squished in there.

I walked away happily with the blossom in my hand when all of a sudden, I heard a voice, that voice, sounded familiar. “Grandma!’’ I said out loud, I knew it was her voice, that singing. “Grandma is that you!!’’, feeling sad all of a sudden missing my Grandma and seeing her face after school I felt a pinch on my leg “ouch!” I said. Then I dropped to the ground.

"LANI!!, lani wake up!!!” it was Mia she was calling my name. I opened my eyes and saw Mia and Louise standing over me with a man in a doctor's suit. “Lani are you alright??, we’ll call your parents to tell them your okay” It was the doctor. “Am I in the hospital? ’’ I said to myself “ Yes you are and thank god you're alive, we thought you were a goner ’’ Louise said. They sat me up straight as my back was filled with pain. “What happened??”, well… Mia said “ Remember how we were getting the drink while we were walking back from school because it was really hot and you were waiting outside the shop for us ’’ Yep! I said “Well me and Louise were paying for the drinks when all of sudden we heard as if someone fell from somewhere, so me and Louise ran outside to find you lying neath a tree we thought you must have fainted and tried waking you up but you wouldn’t and Louise told me to call the ambulance because you might have gone into coma or something like that ’’ .

Wow! I said to them “ How did I faint?, do you guys remember anything because I don’t”. Yep! They both said “Actually not really but the doctors told us that it was so hot outside you couldn’t take the heat anymore and must’ve fainted” Louise said. Ohh yeah now I remember, but I only remember the part of when I got dizzy and then dropped to the ground. Then I remembered something… “THE BLOSSOM TREE!!” I shouted. “I remember when I fainted and I was on a hill and I saw half of the hill was just covered with blossom tree and I like it and admired it a lot! OH, and I also heard my Grandma, well... I think it was her and she was singing and then I felt like something pinched me and then I woke up to you two standing over me” I said. "oh yeah I pinched you" said Louise I was trying to wake you Louise said.

Ohhhh I thought to myself, after all that talking Louise and Mia headed out to buy some lunch for us three to eat and while they were gone I was soon falling asleep until I felt something squishy in my right pocket. I lift up my blanket to find my right pocket was all wet, so I opened my pocket and saw petals of a blossom tree, I was triggered as to how it got there. Thinking for a while I finally realized that I picked the petal from the blossom tree in my dream, "that was really weird!" I said to myself, is this a dream? or did this actually happen? again I was confused. I was tired of all this thinking and finally decided to rest when I laid back in my bed, until I heard some underneath whispering to me saying " Why did you hurt my tree?" I froze... To be continued

Reading: Man and Sea

This week for Reading me and my group have been reading a Book called "Man and Sea". Written by Elia Taumata. This book is based on about what the Tatau is, how we got it and what it means to get it. The Tatau is a tattoo that is originated in Samoa, it is only for Samoan men's to be tattooed on. Mostly Tatau are tattooed on Samoan Leader or Chiefs of their village.

j)    √121 = 14,641
k)   √144 = 6,336
h)  √225 = 50,625

Maths - Square Root

Math's - Square Root

A square root is a number which is multiplied by it self

Example:
√5 = 25 because the this: √ represents this: x which is times.
But the number which is five you times that number by itself so it
goes like 5 x 5 = 25. See!

Here are some others Me, Jayde, Penny and Kei worked on.

√1 = 1: 1 x 1 = 1
√2 = 4: 2 x 2 = 4
√3 = 9: 3 x 3 = 9
√4 = 16: 4 x 4 = 16
√5 = 25: 5 x 5 = 25
√6 = 36: 6 x 6 = 36
√7 = 49: 7 x 7 = 49
√8 = 64: 8 x 8 = 64
√9 = 81: 9 x 9 = 81
√10 = 100: 10 x 10 = 100
√11 = 121: 11 x 11 = 121
√12 = 144: 12 x 12 = 144

And that's all!, maybe you can try on making your own!!

This week for math's. Our class have been working on making 3D shapes for our class so we can use them for learning. What we used to make the shape was the air drying clay that Mrs Stone (our math's teacher) gave us. Then we were put into three groups, then we each got to pick a 3D shape. We we chose those shapes we had to model it meaning this was going to get mess!

The shape I chose was Octahedron it has:

  • 12 Edges
  • 6 Verticals
  • 8 Faces

This week Team 5 have been working on our "Visual Mihi" on hyper studio. Part of what we do is drawing more like art and also tracing. We also have to draw our self and 4 fact about us but draw about it. I worked on my Visual Mihi for 2 weeks and here it the reveal of it!. So if you look in the top right corner you can see that I love netball. If you take a look to the top left corner you can see that I dearly love my family very much and they also come first before everything else. If you look at the bottom left corner you can see that I am original Samoan my whole family is as well, I respect my culture and make sure to keep it alive!, if you see the last square which is the bottom right corner you can see that the Bible is a very important thing in my life looking from the Bible you would properly already know that I go to church which is right I do! My church is called " Tamaki P.I.C" not far from our school like really close. My mum who says her self said she finished reading the whole entire Bible starting from the Old Testament to the New Testament. The most times I read Matthews. The lord is a big part of my life!. How to save money

Title: How to save money

Money is used for so many things nowadays. Everyone just wants a piece of it to spend and spend and when you’ve done using all your money, you barely have any left, that sometimes you just wish you didn’t spend it all. Here are some tips on how to save money, instead of spending it.
------------------------------------------
Buy things you need not want - This is a really useful tip. Don’t buy things that you want, like toys and lollies, these are two things that are common to me. You don’t need a toy instead buy what you need like food!. Food helps you survive in this world, not toys. Eating is important to our parents it’s very important for us to eat.
------------------------------------------
Putting money in your savings account - Another tip is and this is a very important one, even for parents. Okay, you’ll be so happy the first time you get money or when you get paid a lot! somehow you are being very good earning your money. The one problem is you have nowhere to put your money but your wallet, once it’s in your wallet you end up spending it all and can’t help but spend all of it. In the end, you feel so disappointed because all your money is gone. So a tip is put it in your bank account. You’ll less spend it and more save it. In the end, you’ll be so proud of yourself for saving up money that if you do have a lot of money left you might even go on a trip ( Maybe ).
-------------------------------------------
Save power - Finally, tip is, don’t waste the power this is a common thing because it’s mostly kids. Now you kids should help out too with saving money for you parents give them something back. Like instead of watching T.V and play on your tablets and iPhones maybe go outside and play or help out your parents by doing some chores maybe these chores would help you earn pocket money!!.
------------------------------------------
Conclusion - As you can see there are so many ways that you could save money, it only takes a little effort to do it. In the future these tips might help you, you never know until you do it!

Summer Learning Journey: Wk #2 - Day #3 - The Great Depression (The 1930s)

Hellloooo, there my good old friends or should I say my Bloggers!, Let's see what we're up to today, oh yes that's right's blogging again. Hmmm, let's see what activity Miss Leilani is up to today...

Activity #1

Image result for stress pictures*Dealing with Stress

In New Zealand, many people lost their jobs during this decade. Experts predict that as much as 30% of the population was unemployed. It was a very stressful time for families.

Sadly, many of us still experience stress in our lives to this day. When I feel stressed I try to go for a walk or pop into my local gym for a quick workout. Rachel does exercise it makes her feel better.

-------------------------------------
And guess what, EVEN KIDS CAN GET STRESS!. Not only Adults but Children to whether they can do it, or they're trying to do but never works or even when they're way behind  and they need to catch up with study, I think that's quite common in college and High Schools

I think we need a pep-talk on how to get rid of stress or some tips to relax here are some of my things that I would do when I am stressed out is

--------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Go down to the Basin for a Run
  • Listen to some BlueStone Alley my fav piano music EVER!
  • Talk to my kittens outside, while they curl up next to me haha.
  • Eat ALL I want ( But not too much )
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, those are the things that help me when I'm stressed out, what are things that help you when you stressed, write in the comments
--------------------------------------------------------
Activity #2
*Offering A Helping Hand

During this period, people struggled to find work both here at home and overseas. It was a really tough time for people living in the Great Plains of the United States because they were hit with a huge drought that lasted for most of the decade. Many crops were damaged and farmers were not able to make enough money to feed their families.

I wish I went back all the way to the 1930s and help those families who were struggling, Humm, let me think, Yep, Fundraising that's it. I'll use fundraising to help raise money, here are 3 fundraising ideas I listed:

  1. Brownie Sale: They are the best, reason why is because I know my mum's brownie its and is the best (In my opinion). I love brownie and who doesn't, it would put the brownie on 2$ for 4 large brownies you can have it S, M, Large and only 2$ for 4 brownies, now I would spend my 2$ on that!
  2. Lemonade Stand: I've heard lots of people do this, its kind of cool and now that its summer ever gets a little thirst here and there. While someone jogging running or someone who's just walking need's something to drink, lemonade will just be the right thing, I would be putting the lemonade into the water bottle and we could give out some samples just in case they don't like or they do.
  3. Car-wash Sale: I love cleaning the cars mostly to get wet and yeah, hahahah. I would pay 15$ for a car wash, and 2$ for a vacuum, my friends and family will pitch in to help. This will really raise some money oh what if I add the lemonade stand and the Brownie Sale, spent more that 5$ and what you buy next could be FREE!. Now that's an idea!
Bonus Activity #3
*Paying it forward

In the mid-1930s, things began to change for the better in New Zealand. More people were able to find work and receive a steady paycheck. They were still careful, however, with their money and rarely, if ever, bought treats or gifts for one another.

Rachel said that if she traveled back in the mid - 1930s she would bring blocks of Whittaker’s chocolate, bags of Jet Planes and Pineapple Lumps, healthy food snacks, clothing, and games for the children.
---------------------------------------------------
A treat that I would bring for the children if I time traveled back in the mid - 1930s is...

Image result for new zealand lollies list
  • Tim Tams & Crunches
  • With some of my fav - Wine Gums
  • And some Marsmallow
  • Peanut Butter Whittaker’s chocolate + some Jaffas
  • Peanut Slab + Toffee pops
  • A little snack peanut mixed with raisin's, hazel, apricots because like c'mon who doesn't like apricots!
----------------------------------------------------------------

Well that's an end for my assignment today... Like always, there's more tomorrow.
Comment below, whats your fav lollies!

Summer Learning Journey: Wk #2 - Day #2 - The Roaring 20's ( The 1920's )

Hey, up to Day #2, am I a miracle worker or what, I'm just kidding. Let see what I been up to lately...

Activity #1
*Popular Culture - The Silent Movie
A picture in Black and White!
The 1920s saw a massive surge in the number of people going to the movies. Huge new cinemas were built in both Auckland (The Civic Theater) and Dunedin (Empire De Luxe).  The most popular type of movies showing at local NZ cinemas were ‘silent’ films. Gold Rush and The Lion's Cage are examples of iconic silent films. They feature a famous actor named Charlie Chaplin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever heard of The Gold Rush or The Lion Cage? Charlie Chaplin was the main character in both movies. He was the main character- The Tramp in the Gold Rush. And in the Silent movie - The Lion Cage as he was chased by a deer and he went into a cage where a lion was sleeping.. there be more to tell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------- So I had to watched 2 silent movie, and write some review about weather I liked them or not, and why or why not?
--------------------------------- So the first one I watched was The Lion's Cage

Image result for The Lion cageReview 1#: The Lion Cage was very funny for me, because he was like panicking and running around trying to find he way out of the cage. At the end was crazy because I think this woman came and saw he was in the cage so then she unlocked when she came back with the key, and Charlie Chaplin, he was like running for the *hills (*Running as fast as he could) up to a pole and had no idea how he climbed that high,
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Second one I watched was Gold Rush

Image result for gold rush 1925Review #2: I like this movie, it was adventures and exciting and surprising because like, you didn't know what was coming next because it was a silent movie ( Of course ). I liked how he feel in love with a barmaid, trying valiantly to win her affections. I think this was my favourite one, I love the trailer.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Activity #2
* Art Deco

In the 1920s a new artistic movement emerged in New Zealand (and around the world). It was called ‘Art Deco.’ The picture to the right is a classic example of an ‘Art Deco’ piece. Take a close look at the painting. Do you like it?
Self Portrait By Tamara de Lempicka
---------------------
Well, looking at the painting. This look's fantastic to be honest.

If this was a rating out of 5 star⭐ (1 star = terrible painting, 2 stars = pretty bad painting, 3 stars = okay painting, 4 stars = good painting and 5 stars = amazing painting). Also with a reason why or why not.
----------------------
So the rating I would give in my opinion is 4 stars⭐. I like how its been painted, I can see those white shades that have been painted looking like the sun was reflecting on that brand new car. I also like how the lady has her hands on the wheel, it looks as if someone is siting next to her. All though I would like it if her face was happier and left the mouth side a little up to make a smile. But I like all the painting around, even the blue turquoise color paint for the car looks AMAZING!!.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bonus Activity #3
*Crossing The Tasman

In 1928, a crew of four men flew, for the first time, across the Tasman from Australia to New Zealand. One of the men on board the Southern Cross airplane was a New Zealander named T.H. Mc Williams. His job was to operate the radio in the airplane. Unfortunately, the radio stopped working shortly after take-off and the rain and ice were so heavy that the pilot, Kingsford Smith, couldn’t see out of his front windscreen. Yikes! Fortunately, the plane made it all the way across the Tasman landing in Christchurch after a 14 hour trip.

Right now, I'm imagine that I'm in one of those plan crew's right now. I brought my diary with me when the plan, the crew and I landed. I'm going to write a poem about how I felt when I landed.
---------------------------------------------------
Poem:

Hoping onto the plane feeling proud as ever!
Closing doors, looking into the metal pipe, seeing my reflection feeling clever.
Hearing chit chatting were ever I turn
Its getting really hot in here, I feel like I going to BURN!
I hope nothing goes wrong, where is the captain he taking so long?
Oh no!, Whats that shaking I have to know
Shaking feeling scared, did I come unprepared?
Nope I'm just being silly, No really
Well finally we have landed, we grabbed our bags and hoped out as commanded
I hope I learned a lesson from this, good thing I have my friend beside me ''Chris''

My Poem!

The End!
Well thats the end of my post!
I hope everyone had an AWSOME New Year.
Thanks to Billy for the Kind comments
Bye. Leilani - Romano
