Learning the basics is important

Hi my name is Leilani in christmas I will be off to Australia with my Family soon. So before I go to Australia I need to know a little bit about the country that I'm going to or in other words I need to know the basic.

In Australia the capital city is Canberra. In Canberra in 2011 there was 356,585 who lived there Wow! now thats alot of people. January is the hottest month in Canberra it is 21°C just like in new Zealand its the hottest month in January as well. Canberra is Located in the northern part of Australia capital territory.

The languages most commonly spoken in Canberra is English.

So now that I know the basic I'll be off to Australia.=)

Say NO to Bullfighting

One of the most popular activities in Madrid, which is the capital city of Spain is ,Bullfighting,. It has been part of the Spain for centuries. In bullfighting people called ‘toreros and ‘matadors’ fight with a live bull.

Not everyone supports bullfighting in Spain. In fact, about 30% of the population want it to be banned (stopped) completely.

Today in my opinion I think that Bullfighting should be banned and I don't think its such a good idea and why? Well here are some reason.

Well first of all because that is so dangerous for a human being and could die.

And second of all because if the bulls out then you have to kill it which is animal abuse and would be very sad.

And third of all because I hate to see animals being killed with sharp sticks and weapons.

And those are the reasons why I think bullfight should be banned.

The earthquake has returned

Hello my name is Leilani and today I am here to report about a terrible news event that has started in New Zealand -  an earthquake that has hit mostly down the South Island.

Today I have found a lot of information that people might have heard about the earthquake and that it has hit Wellington and Christchurch mostly. The earthquake was 7.5 and hit near Kaikoura.  It killed two people. What a lot of damage it has done. Some sides of the buildings are damaged and have collapsed as well in Wellington. About 100 people are now evacuating from their home. In Wellington the earthquake has now gone higher up to 7.8 and more people are evacuating. Wellington cinema car park building is likely to collapse and in a larger aftershock. Waves have been crashing in Wellington and caused road closure now people are warned to stay away from beaches as well.

Some Tips for when earthquake:

# If you are in a house go underneath a table and Drop, Cover and Hold if the earthquake is still happening.

# If you are outside with nowhere to go then you Drop, Cover and Hold and wait till the shaking stops.

# Make sure that you stay away from the beaches if tsunamis are coming.

# And last but not least listen to the news or maybe the radio it can tell you what might be happening around New Zealand and how you can keep safe in a earthquake.

Thank you for listening.

Botanic Gardens

Our trip to Botanic Garden

PicMonkey Image.jpgOn Thursday 13th October our school went on a trip to the Auckland Botanic Garden in Manurewa.

I was super excited to go because I never been there before. Our class was talking about what we might see, hear, feel or smell. Next we went on the bus except for Mrs. Vickers she had to stay. We stayed on the bus for half an hours and I heard a lot of chatter on the way.

Finally we were there. I was so excited to go out that I couldn’t hold it in. Everyone hopped off the bus and onto the footpath.

The first place we went to was the edible garden it was filled with lots of different type of fruit and vegetable. There was a big wood shed but it wasn’t a shed it just look like it but without a roof and a wall. I saw a shrub and strawberry garden that had grown after that we left the edible garden.

Next we went to the harakeke plants, it's a big green plant that the Maori used to use to make flax baskets and strings in the olden days. They also used it for the horse carriage to attach it to the horse.

Then when me and my group kept on walking on and on then we spotted a cherry blossom tree and across from the cherry blossom tree we saw the nikau tree. They are really big and tall. Near the blossom tree was stone stair steps. Our whole class took a photo there. On the first picture it was funny because we were all allowed to do the dab.

Next we went to see the magnolia in a forest. There was so many that I liked they were all pink and red and yellow and one that looked kind of reddish pink. My favorite one was the pink magnolia because it reminds me of when my nana and I went over to Samoa. Next our group went to the rose garden and there was a very nice rose arch. I saw a lots of white, yellow, red, and pink roses we went to see them and they were so pretty and smelled like roses. There were also chairs that had peoples name on it that passed away which was very sad so now moving on.

Next we went to the children garden center where we went to sit down in the nice cool shade. Then each of us were given a piece of paper to as our S.S.D that stands for Silent. Sustainable. Drawing.

But then sadly all days must come to an end. So we went back to the bus and hopped on it was really fun going. I wish we could go and spend some more time. Well my legs are tried and I feel sleepy but tomorrow will be another day.

3rd place for me

On Tuesday my teacher Mrs Buchanan had told me that on Monday, when I was sick a lady called Rachel came over to our school on Monday. I was given a prize and a certificate from her for doing a good job blogging in the winter learning journey program but sadly I wasn't there. She had chosen three winners, I came third and Prudence came second and Jessica came first they also did a fantastic job on blogging as well. Then at the end of school my teacher had given me my prize and certificate to take home. I was so happy that I got this prize that when I got outside I was jumping around with excitement. In my prize I had a Rio DVD a green water bottle, water slingshot and three chocolates. When I got home my mum was very proud of me. The winter learning journey was fun for me and thank you to Rachel for my prize.

Inspires

Who is a person that inspires me in my life?

A person that inspirers me in my life is Michael Edwards.

And why dose he inspirers me? well he inspirers me because he use to be a great ski jumper in England in the winter Olympic but although he came last in the event but even thought Michael Edwards came last he never gave up.

And that is why Michael Edwards inspirers me.

So think about it, who inspirers you in your life? and why.

My questions for Marjorie Gestring

Humm what questions would I ask if I meet Marjorie Gestring:

1. So Marjorie Gestring what made you get into sport?

2. Why do you want to become a springboard diver athlete?

3. How do you feel being the youngest athlete?

4. If you weren't a springboard diver what would you be?

5. Is there a sport athlete that you look up too or admire?

Eddie the Eagle

This is a trailer of the movie Eddie the Eagle

When Eddie was a small boy he dream was to go to the Olympic but his parents said that he was never going to be a athlete but no matter what people said he always tried then when there was a winter Olympic Eddie was in the team and he was all ways the one who made mistake but to him win or lose he never gave up to going to the winter Olympic.

Inspiration

This is a Video of the Olympic about Be the Inspiration

Rated: 10 = good movie

What I like about this video is that it makes me feel proud of myself of my goals and my achievements that I have accomplished and about my passion and to never give up on what you believe in.

Facts about Stuart Farquhar

My sport that I picked was: Badminton

Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttle across a net. The aim of the game is that there are two teams with 2 players in the team, the other team has to try and get there shuttle over to land at there opponents side so they can get a earn points.

The rules in badminton are:

  • A match consists of the best of 3 games of 21 points.
  • Every time there is a serve – there is a point scored.

    Tom and Vinicius Episode #2

The search for just the right home:

Tom and Vinicius are trying to look for just the right home but it seem that all the homes in the forest have other animals living in them.

    The Ancient Olympics

    1. Pentathlon – an event where athletes had to compete in five separate activities – running, long jump, discus, javelin and wrestling. Javelin is a sport where an athlete throws a long sword-like spear as far as they can. Discus is similar to javelin but, instead of throwing a spear, the athlete throws a flat disc.

I have chosen the sport pentathlon because my mum loved to play it back in her country and because it sounds really fun to play.

    Facts about Milo of Croton

1.Milo of Croton is a 6th century BC wrestler

    2. One story tells of the wrestler saving the philosopher's life when a roof was about to collapse upon him and another that Milo may have married the philosopher's daughter Myia.

3.Milo won the wrestling championship; in these and other Greek national games, he won 32 wrestling competitions.

    Fair or unfair

How come girls were not allowed to play in the Olympic or even watch it.

I think in my opinion that they should change the rule's so girls should be in the Olympics and why?. Because anything is possible in this world and I think that girls can do anything and that they can achieve them if they believe that they can do it and that is my opinion that girls should be in the Olympics.

    Whanau hui

Last Thursday my mum came in with my little nephew to our chromebook celebration. First Mrs Buchanan kindly introduced herself to my mom and then I told her what I’m going to show her on my chromebook.

I had to get my chromebook to show mum the tabs that I had prepared for her to look at. First I showed her my blog with my term two goals and my 6 word holiday drawing. Next I showed her our Room 10 blog. She said she liked it. After that I showed her the video of why I want to take my chromebook home. She had a smile when it started. She thought it was funny how Bella said "Welcome! It’s from live t.v". After that she had to do a survey. She didn’t know what it was at first but then when I explained to her, she understood. When we finished I told mum that she’ll just have to sign the permission for me to take my chromebook home. I had get my case to put my chromebook in. I was really happy that my mom came to my chromebook celebration because it shows that she is interested in what I am learning on my chromebook. Mrs Buchanan said to my mum she can get some afternoon tea food before we go home. She just got a banana and a cookie and then off we went home with my chromebook. What an exciting day for me!

    I love reading and writing

    20160401_143436 (3).jpg

Malo e lelei, my name is Leilani. I am in Year 6 and I go to Ruapotaka School. My teacher is Mrs Buchanan and my principal’s name is Mrs Vickers.

My teacher, Mrs Buchanan, is teaching us how to be Cybersmart and be careful when using our chromebooks. My favourite subjects at school are reading and writing - writing because I get to share my ideas and reading because I get to imagine and experience things that I haven’t before. In class for maths I need to learn my times tables.

In my family there are 13 people and I have two pet cats. Every night before I go to sleep, I read my books from school or learn my spelling words.

My favourite singers are Fifth Harmony. I love their songs.
